Nastia, a Russian peasant girl, encounters danger and tragedy when she returns home to her village after her aristocrat masters flee the 1917 Bolshevik revolution. She marries Ali, a Persian who takes her from the newly formed Soviet Union to his family in Iran, in the early 1920’s. She embarks on a strange, at times enchanting journey of discovery, learning about the customs and traditions of her new country. Ali falls ill, forcing Nastia to face disappointment and harsh conditions. Her will to survive is a source of inspiration.
